How has Fast Food Nation Changed my life Post #12
We are more than half way through the semester and reading Fast Food Nation has been a very interesting experience to say the least. I believe my appetite for red meat and poultry has changed gradually. Before reading the book I had viewed various videos on the subject and had experimented with eating almost no meat except for fish for over six months. It was a realization of what a big part meat plays in my life. For every five meals my mother made for dinner, four contained meet. I became excluded from a lot of family gatherings because of the rejection my family felt from not eating their food. I made an attempt to return to eating meet and it was far from pretty. Thanks giving came and the turkey was sitting on the table. My mother quickly gave me a strong gaze like, "You better eat some meat or else..." type of look. I cave and ate the sacrificed bird. I vomited throughout the whole week. I had lost the lipids that would digest meat so my body became very strange to consuming such food. I eventually recovered those lipids and was able to continue eating meat as a "social recreation." I became disappointed to having caved so easily into the meat temptation, but I also believe that according to the environment you live in will ultimately determine the success of becoming a vegetarian or a person with low consumtion of meet.

meat is a big part of my life so I know what you mean.
ReplyDeletewow I'm glad that you recovered from the lipids.
ReplyDeleteThats crazy, dont feel bad for eating meat you did better and lasted longer than most people. Be proud of yourself.
ReplyDeleteOh my.. I kind of did the same thing but I gave up meat for 2 years and it was so hard. But now I am back to eating it once in a while when I feel brave
ReplyDeleteI had gone without eating meat for a while before, as well. But when I started eating it again my body didn't react in a harsh way. Maybe because I didn't do it for as long as you did.
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know, you spelled 'meat' incorrectly quite a few times in this blog post. Just saying... as a friend. hehe
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed that you haven't eaten any meat for the past six months.. and to think we only started reading this book only a few months ago. :P
Oh, Edgar! i think we are too sarcastic for written communication. :D
